42ND STREET
Nederlander Worldwide Opens Series of Broadway Musicals in
China with 42nd Street Tour
09-17-2007
Audiences across China are tapping their feet to
Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment's presentation
of the Tony Award-winning sensation
42nd Street. The
Shanghai Majestic Theatre kicked off the tour to
enthusiastic audiences and rave reviews. The debut of
42nd
Street marks the
first time a major
Broadway production tours extensively through China. The show will
travel to several of China's most exciting cities, rich with
theater history, including Beijing, Nanjing, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Hefei
and Ningbo until the end of November.
Bob Nederlander Jr. president and CEO of
Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment sees a bright
future for America's most cherished shows playing in Chinese
theatres, "This opening truly optimizes my family's vision of
global theatre - the accessibility of an authentic Broadway touring
production; the same shows that are seen by millions of
theatre-goers across the United States will be seen in some of the
world's most exotic cities." On the heels of the success of China's
42nd Street opening, The Nederlander family launched a new division
of their company,
Nederlander New Century this
year, whose future plans include bringing three additional large
scale shows to China each season.
A project seven-year in the making, Nederlander Worldwide
Entertainment's Chinese affiliation is the first joint-venture
production and theatre management company allowed to operate under
the new rules set forth by the Chinese Ministry of Culture. This
endeavor has received strategic investments from American
International Group, Inc., world leaders in insurance and financial
services and Ticketmaster, the world's leading ticketing
company.
Nederlander says, "This event is not only about bringing the best
of Broadway to China; it's about sharing universal themes through
musical performances while fostering goodwill among our two
cultures."
