During Nederlander New Century's successful Chinese tour of 42nd
Street in the fall of 2007, Nederlander created a promotional
partnership with Dragon TV ?working together to use the theme of
"Broadway" as the central focus of "My Show" 2007 season, not only
to promote the idea of "Broadway" among the younger generation in
China, but also to help to develop young Chinese talents in the
performing arts.
A Chinese national talent show televised on Dragon TV for the past
4 years, My Show has become a cultural phenomenon much like
American Idol. As part of the collaboration, Marsha Yuan, one of
the young talents from "My Show" 2007 season, was chosen to join
42nd Street cast for a 3-week run in Shanghai. Besides, the winners
of the "Broadway Star Award" also have the opportunity to come to
New York, and experience the real Broadway.
Nederlander invested the time and planning to put together a
Broadway training for this year's "My Show' winners, who came to
New York on Jan 19 for a week-long Broadway training camp made
possible by the combined efforts of Nederlander New Century, the
Chinese government, and national Chinese TV station, Dragon
TV.
Teen group "OP" and talented songstress Yu Hongting experienced
the training a Broadway star needs in order to take the stage every
night. The training comprises of pop and Broadway vocal lessons and
dance and acting workshops. The artists also sat down with current
and former Broadway performers, including Lisa Yuen from "The 25th
Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee."
