  • International

    Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment (NWE) is one of the pioneers in the international theatrical industry whose initiatives include, in part, venue design and operation, show creation, touring and production, as well as education and ancillary services. For over 20 years, Nederlander has been an active participant in the fast-growing Chinese cultural industry creating the first foreign joint venture permitted to operate in the Chinese performing arts industry in 2005. Since then, NWE and has toured seven shows through twenty cities across China. NWE presented a Spanish language adaptation of the Broadway production RENT, the first Broadway musical to be produced and presented in the nation of Cuba in over 50 years, and the subject of the documentary Revolution Rent which is currently streaming on HBO Max.

  • Venue Design, Operations, and Programming

    Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment manages theatres utilizing the Broadway management model. In partnership with Shanghai Industrial Investment Co, NWE will manage the 2,000 seat SIIC Center Theatre which will be Shanghai’s largest theatrical venue and the first to be designed as a truly authentic Broadway theatre. Since 2011, NWE has collaborated with the Cuban Ministry of Culture to manage historical facilities in Havana and elsewhere. Nederlander Worldwide also co-designed, opened, programmed and produced localized productions for a world-class performing arts center complex at Istanbul's Zorlu Center, Istanbul's largest multi-purpose performing arts center. In March 2012, NWE entered into an agreement to manage and operate two theatres in Taiwan, located in the Hualien Hakka Tulou Buildings Humanities Center, situated in Hualien City and close to the famed Takoro Gorge, visited by millions of people each year.

  • Producing

    Nederlander produces original Chinese shows and Chinese language adaptations, including most recently a Mandarin version of Fame: The Musical in partnership with the Beijing Central Academy of Drama and Sound of the Silk Road, which premiered in Shanghai in July 2021. An outgrowth of production efforts in China, Mr. Nederlander established the “China on Broadway” initiative to bring the best of Chinese culture to Broadway in New York City. NWE presented Soul of Shaolin, the first production from China to appear on the Broadway stage, at the Marquis Theater. The production received both Tony Award and Drama Desk Award nominations. Mr. Nederlander also presented The Dream of the Red Chamber, a production the city of Shanghai gave as a “cultural exchange gift” to the City of New York, at Lincoln Center’s Rose Hall Theater. Upcoming productions include Shimmer, a Broadway musical celebrating Shanghai’s role as a safe haven for Jewish refugees during WWII and the Broadway-bound play Darknights and Daydreams.

  • Education

    Educational initiatives include the establishment of the Advanced Certificate in Performing Arts Enterprise in partnership with Boston University Metropolitan College, the Cultural Trade & Industry Exchange Program, established in conjunction with China’s Ministry of Culture as well as past and present collaboration with various educational institutions across China including Peking University, the Shanghai Theatre Academy, and the Beijing Central Academy of Drama.
